The City of Thomasville is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Georgia certification is preferred, though not required. Applicants must be at least 21 before or by graduation from the academy, possess a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license and able to pass a criminal background and physical fitness assessment test to apply.

This position will perform traditional duties, including, patrolling specific districts by foot or automobile, handling public complaints, arresting violators of the law, responding to accidents, issuing the necessary summons or tickets when appropriate, preparing/compiling reports and maintaining police records. Additionally, Thomasville Police Officers are required to participate in Community Oriented Policing programs that will require extensive interaction with the community.

Starting Salary:

  • Police Officer I (uncertified Police Recruit attending the Georgia Police Academy) – $20.70 hourly or yearly salary of $45,218.
  • Police Officer II (GA Certified Police Officer w/no experience or recruit officer who graduates from the academy) – $21.74 hourly or yearly salary of $47,479.
  • Additional educational incentive pay of $1,500 for Associate’s degree and $3,000 for Bachelor’s degree in related field of work.
  • Additional pay increases for experience and special assignments.

Candidate will be required to operate heavy equipment in all types of weather and conditions. The operator is assigned a route and must meet the equipment and demands of the route. Experience in the operation of Front Loader, Side Loader, Grapple Hook and Roll Off is preferred. All applicants must have the minimum of a Class B CDL license. The candidate is also required to work long hours and on weekends and holidays as needed.

Salary ranges from $17.89 to $23.70 hourly. Open until filled.


The primary duties of the position of FLIGHT LINE OPERATOR (FLO) will directly involve the handling and servicing of aircraft of all types. This will include, but not be limited to, fueling operations, marshaling of aircraft of all types to and from parking areas, as well as moving aircraft under tow out of and into storage hangers, placement and operation of Ground Power Units and Lavatory-Service Carts, to name a few. Airport Radio Communications will be an acquired skill. Greeting and working with Customers/Passengers in a professional and friendly manner will be required. Basic Office Skills such as processing Fuel Orders and Fuel Sales will be an acquired skill.

Secondary Duties will involve the basic operation and care of Field Maintenance Equipment of various types, along with the basic inspection and lite maintenance of said equipment. Must be willing to work flexible schedules, which may include weekends and various holidays. The majority of the work activity will be outside in a variety of weather and temperature conditions. Lifting requirements will generally be light to moderate in nature.

The Customer Accounts Department produces approximately 20,000 utility bills per month, including billing for electric, water, sewer, natural gas, solid waste, broadband and telecommunications services. This position is extremely time sensitive with regular deadlines to adhere to strict billing cycles. The work is very detailed oriented; includes reviewing meter reading edits for warnings and errors, issuing work orders if needed, posting readings to the billing system, calculating rates, and reviewing charges on accounts. Requires a thorough knowledge of the billing system and billing practices, utilities metering and meter reading practices, and billing procedures. Must have the ability to work well with figures, analyze consumption patterns, and detect irregularities. This position provides back-up support to Utilities Dispatch and may provide support to the Customer Success and Customer Care Representatives as staffing and time allow.

Qualified applicants must have excellent math, analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to set priorities, plan, and coordinate work activities to accomplish work objectives. Attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential. The ability to interact well with others, including co-workers and customers, is necessary. Must communicate effectively with customers both orally and in writing and must be able to resolve problems in a timely manner. Strong knowledge of operation of computer and Microsoft Office.

This position is responsible for organizing and managing community special events, such as the annual Rose Show and Festival, Victorian Christmas, First Fridays, July 4th Celebration, Black History Celebration, and others as assigned. Responsible for assisting with destination marketing and communication initiatives, working directly with Main Street, Tourism and Marketing to include but not be limited to press releases, promotional marketing, website content and social media updates. Responsible for facility management of the Municipal Auditorium and The Ritz Amphitheater as rentable public venues. This includes facilitating rental requests, coordinating renter agreements, and assisting with the development of public programming initiatives to include but not be limited to developing and implementing from start to finish all contracts for artists, performance groups, and rentals. This position is also responsible for coordinating building maintenance and for managing special events and facilities budgets, to include recommending entertainment, increasing revenue, and supporting marketing initiatives. Develops and maintains relationships with key stakeholders and community partners, to include various citizen groups, subcommittees, and internal departments of the City of Thomasville for the purpose of planning and executing event and tourism development initiatives.

Qualified candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, event planning or a closely related field, and/ or 2 to 3 years increasingly responsible event planning experience. Must have highly effective written and verbal communication skills and exceptional organizational skills; must be able to work independently and as a team member; should be able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines; must have the ability to maintain budgets and must have active involvement in community and civic programs and events.

This position is responsible for coordinating the daily operations of Thomasville’s Downtown Main Street program and Tourism initiatives. With a high level of focus to the community’s historic preservation and economic development efforts, the Downtown & Tourism Development Coordinator is the first point of contact for inquiries related to Downtown Thomasville and our Tourist attractions, working closely with the Main Street and Tourism Managers to ensure all downtown and tourism initiatives are successful to support economic vitality. Employee in this position maintains monthly statistical reports related to downtown development, to include new downtown businesses, jobs created, dollars invested, and records of all activities in the downtown business district; assists manager in developing, implementing, and distributing marketing materials related to downtown & community special events or initiatives, ensuring that downtown business owners, tourist attractions, community partners and stakeholders receive timely and accurate communication; creates merchant memos, merchant surveys and other communications initiatives as needed to ensure accurate information is communicated to merchants, attractions, and other participants; updates and maintains Welcome Packets and other business development information for new businesses downtown; coordinates ribbon cuttings for new businesses; participates in monthly board meetings for the Main Street Advisory Board (MSAB), Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and Destination Thomasville Tourism Authority (DTTA) by assisting with meeting schedules, distributing meeting notifications and agendas, and taking accurate minutes for board approval; serves as the first point of contact for incoming Main Street/DDA/DTTA/Events calls to the Downtown & Tourism Development office and contributes ideas for marketing initiatives, including print and video advertising, collateral material, social media content and website information. Performs social media updates and Visit Thomasville initiatives, including newsletters to our Main Street Merchants and our visitors.

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a closely related field is preferred with one to two years’ experience in marketing or public relations work; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required skills and knowledge. Must have highly effective written and verbal communication skills and exceptional organizational skills; must be able to work independently and as a team member; should be able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines; must have the ability to maintain budgets and must have active involvement in community and civic programs and events.

Candidate must be a detail-oriented person and should have computer experience including MS Office. A background in utilities is desired, but not a requirement. Candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting customers issues in (but not limited to) the following areas: electric, gas, water, wastewater, cable, telephone, street and ROW issues, customer billing and service issues. Candidate will take delinquent payments and set up new accounts, dispatch crews in all utility areas including electric and cable outages. Must be willing to work shifts and will be required to fill vacant shifts and work large outage events beyond regular schedule. Candidate will use SCADA to tag electric crews, operate water system and monitor and respond to alarms. Candidate must become familiar with individual departments operating procedures as they relate to URC duties on behalf of said departments. Must become ITS and SCADA certified through MEAG. Candidate will identify individual trouble tickets and the correct completion of each; will identify the different SCADA screens, including correct interpretation of the data shown on each; will collect and copy reports for the different departments; will read electric distribution maps and the individual feeder designations enabling the operator to tag crews to correct feeders according to their locations.

Candidate will be on stand-by 24/7 for URC management of storm or emergency restoration for utility services if needed.

This is skilled automotive and equipment mechanical work approaching the journeyman level. An employee in this class is responsible for performing skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of automotive and specialized mechanical equipment. The employee is responsible for diagnosing and executing repairs needed, reporting time and supplies used on each vehicle serviced or repaired and ordering parts. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate employees. The work is assigned by means of verbal and written orders and is carried out independently by the employee in accordance with standard practices of the trade.

Candidate should have at least 4 years of experience servicing and repairing vehicles and other equipment; should have a thorough working knowledge of the standards methods, practices, tools and equipment of the mechanic’s trade and should have knowledge of the principles and mechanics of all types of internal combustion engines and motorized equipment.

Get your start in a challenging new career! Go as far as you want in the fire service! We’ll train you to be a Firefighter and EMT and get you the training, education, and certifications you need to be successful as a career firefighter. Once hired you will attend a Georgia Fire Academy (GFA) class. This ten-week course consists of 425 hours of rigorous training that includes classroom-based lecture and practical skills building sessions. You will receive transportation to the training facility, and a salary while attending the academy. There you will earn your Firefighter 2 (NPQ)/Haz-Mat Awareness and Operations Level certifications. Once you graduate, we further your education with your EMT (National) certifications within the first two years. Once you have completed these certifications, we offer you Haz-Mat Technician, Engineer, and Fire Inspector certifications.
