FIREFIGHTER, THOMASVILLE FIRE RESCUE

Get your start in a challenging new career! Go as far as you want in the fire service! We’ll train you to be a Firefighter and EMT and get you the training, education, and certifications you need to be successful as a career Firefighter. Once hired you will attend the Georgia Fire Academy (GFA). This eight-week course consist of 345 hours of rigorous training that includes classroom-based lecture and practical skills building sessions. You will receive transportation, room and board, and a salary while attending the academy. There you will earn your Firefighter 1 (NPQ)/Haz-Mat Awareness and Operations Level certifications. Once you graduate from the GFA, we further your education and training with Firefighter 2 (NPQ) and your EMT (National) certifications within the first year and six months. Once you have completed these certifications, we offer you Haz-Mat Technician, Engineer, and Fire Inspector certifications. You can even attend Fire and EMS related college degree programs while on duty. We want you to be successful in the fire service!

POLICE OFFICER

The City of Thomasville is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer through April 16th. Georgia certification is preferred, though not required. Applicants must be at least 21, possess a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license and able to pass a criminal background and physical fitness assessment test to apply.

This position will perform traditional duties, including, patrolling specific districts by foot or automobile, handling public complaints, arresting violators of the law, responding to accidents, issuing the necessary summons or tickets when appropriate, preparing/compiling reports and maintaining police records. Additionally, Thomasville Police Officers are required to participate in Community Oriented Policing programs that will require extensive interaction with the community.

Excellent benefits! Starting pay, for uncertified Police Recruit attending the Georgia Police Academy is $15.00 per hour or annual salary of $34,740. GA Certified Police Officers w/no experience and recruit officer who graduates from the academy starting pay is $16.00 per hour or $37,056 (based off 2316 hours which includes 11 paid holidays). Additional educational incentive pay is $1,500.00 for Associates and $3,000.00 for Bachelor’s degree in related field of work. Additional pay increases are given for experience and special assignments.

OPERATOR III, WASTEWATER TREATMENT

Employee must have a strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work independently or as a team member. Must be able to work in inclement weather as well as confined spaces when required. Will be on call after training period. Some Holidays and weekend shifts. Employee must have a Class 3 Wastewater Certification or ability to obtain within one year of employment.

Starting salary is $12.25/hr. Open until filled.


FLEET SERVICES MECHANIC

The employee is responsible for performing skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of automotive and specialized mechanical equipment. The employee is responsible for diagnosing and executing repairs needed, reporting time and supplies used on each vehicle serviced or repaired, and ordering parts. The work is assigned by means of verbal and written orders and is carried out independently by the employee in accordance with standard practices of the trade.

Duties will include, but not limited to, diagnosing and repairing engines, drive trains, electrical, steering and suspension, braking systems and components. Employee will perform preventative maintenance service and inspections on a variety of city owned vehicles and equipment; will make minor welding repairs and repair defective electrical wiring.

Must have a thorough working knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools and equipment of the mechanic’s trade and/or 2 to 4 years of experience servicing and repairing vehicles and other equipment.

Starting salary is $16.75/hr. Open until filled.


ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER – CITY OF THOMASVILLE, GA (pop. approx. 19,000)

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The City Engineer performs considerably independently under the direction of the City Manager and the Executive Director of Public Utilities and is responsible for the professional operations and management of the engineering department and municipal airport, including supervising 11 FTEs.

Requirements include a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive engineering experience, with seven (7) years of experience in Municipal Engineering, Utilities Engineering, or closely related work. Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (Civil) in the State of Georgia or have credentials to obtain the same within six (6) months of hire date. Graduation from a four (4) year accredited Engineering School with additional training and certifications preferred.
