The City of Thomasville is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Georgia certification is preferred, though not required. Applicants must be at least 21 before or by graduation from the academy, possess a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license and able to pass a criminal background and physical fitness assessment test to apply.
This position will perform traditional duties, including, patrolling specific districts by foot or automobile, handling public complaints, arresting violators of the law, responding to accidents, issuing the necessary summons or tickets when appropriate, preparing/compiling reports and maintaining police records. Additionally, Thomasville Police Officers are required to participate in Community Oriented Policing programs that will require extensive interaction with the community.
Starting Salary:
- Police Officer I (uncertified Police Recruit attending the Georgia Police Academy) – $17.97 hourly or yearly salary of $39,254.
- Police Officer II (GA Certified Police Officer w/no experience or recruit officer who graduates from the academy) – $19.05 hourly or yearly salary of $41,616.
- Additional educational incentive pay of $1,500 for Associate’s degree and $3,000 for Bachelor’s degree in related field of work.
- Additional pay increases for experience and special assignments.

CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER, FIRE RESCUE
Thomasville Fire Rescue is accepting applications for the position of Certified Firefighter/EMT with the City of Thomasville. This position prevents, suppresses, and extinguishes fires, provides emergency medical treatment, and conducts other related firefighting activities.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma. Candidates must be professional, customer-focused, and work well within a team environment. Females and minorities are urged to apply.
Firefighter (NPQ FF1 & 2) is required and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification is preferred.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT TECHNICIAN I, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
IT Support Technician I provide 1st level technical support to the end user for the diagnosis and resolution of hardware and software related issues within the City of Thomasville and other support cities/organizations. Will ensure effective and efficient customer service is provided to all system users in a professional and timely manner. Must have a minimum of two years’ experience as IT Support Technician and be able to obtain Microsoft Entry Level Certification with the first year of employment. Excellent communications skills required. Also, must be organized, customer service oriented and work well within a team environment.
Salary ranges from $19.72 to $26.13 hourly. Position is open until filled.
NETWORK ENGINEER I, NETWORK OPERATIONS
The Network Engineer I will assist the Network Engineer II in maintaining and troubleshooting of Fiber Optic based Metro Ethernet, DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem, IP, and optical transport infrastructure, as well as, technology testing, and implementation support for new network technology deployments. The Network Engineer I will also assist in generating detailed engineering documentation to support the installation, configuration, and ongoing support of all new network deployments and upgrades. Critical thinking skills and excellent verbal and written communications skills are required.
Must have one of the following certifications: (Cisco Certified Network Associate, CCDA (Cisco Certified Design Associate, JNCIA (Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate and at least 2 years of experience directly involved in network maintenance and support.

BROADBAND INSTALLER APPRENTICE, CNSNEXT
Candidate must be able to perform new cable installations from the system tap to the customer’s equipment interface. This includes aerial/underground drops and inside wiring to customer’s video, telephone and data devices. Candidate must be familiar with the various types of equipment utilized by CNS and customer owned equipment. Candidate must be capable of heavy lifting and ladder climbing to heights greater than 25 feet. Candidate must be capable of troubleshooting and repairing customer problems and be able to take after hour calls on a rotational basis
Salary ranges from $15.45 to $20.48 hourly. Position is open until filled.
The job requires physical work in weather extremes during times of excessive heat and cold while raining or in icy conditions. The successful candidate will have completed and approved apprenticeship program and have at least five (5) years of experience as a journeyman lineman and possess a valid GA class A CDL. The candidate must be available to work weekends, holidays and evenings and during times of emergencies and certain planned activities. The job requires work on energized power lines both overhead and underground during times of maintenance and construction. Candidate must have knowledge and training in electrical theory as it relates to the electric industry. Must be knowledgeable with overhead and underground transformers and the banking of transformers to provide secondary electrical service to residential, commercial and industrial customers. The candidate must be able to trouble shoot and make repairs to the electric system as needed during times of power outages. The candidate should also be familiar with and have training in proper electric substation operation and control procedures. The job will require the lineman to be on-call for a 24-hour seven (7) day period on a rotational basis with fellow lineman after a six (6) month probationary period.
Starting salary ranges from $$32.12 to $42.56 hourly. Position is open until filled.
Candidate will be responsible for tree trimming and removing trees around high voltage lines and equipment. Must have prior tree trimming experience working from aerial devices as well as tree climbing with ropes and tree gaffs. Candidate will be required to assist with line construction and/or storm damage restoration.

MASTER MECHANIC, FLEET SERVICES
This is skilled automotive and equipment mechanical work approaching the journeyman level. An employee in this class is responsible for performing skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of automotive and specialized mechanical equipment. The employee is responsible for diagnosing and executing repairs needed, reporting time and supplies used on each vehicle serviced or repaired and ordering parts. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate employees. The work is assigned by means of verbal and written orders and is carried out independently by the employee in accordance with standard practices of the trade.
Candidate should have at least 4 years of experience servicing and repairing vehicles and other equipment; should have a thorough working knowledge of the standards methods, practices, tools and equipment of the mechanic’s trade and should have knowledge of the principles and mechanics of all types of internal combustion engines and motorized equipment.
Salary ranges from $22.83 to $30.25 hourly. Position is open until filled.
A combination of the following skills and experiences will be considered: operation and maintenance of backhoes, motor graders, mowing tractors, fork-lifts etc. Employee will assist with tree removals. Must have a strong background in carpentry work, welding, mechanics, concrete framing and pouring, pipe - laying and asphalt work. This position requires the employee to work during storm events and to handle on-call duties after training is complete.

UTILITY RESPONSE CENTER APPRENTICE OPERATOR, UTILITY RESPONSE CENTER (URC)
Candidate must be a detail-oriented person and should have computer experience including MS Office. A background in utilities is desired, but not a requirement. Candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting customers issues in (but not limited to) the following areas: electric, gas, water, wastewater, cable, telephone, street and ROW issues, customer billing and service issues. Candidate will take delinquent payments and set up new accounts, dispatch crews in all utility areas including electric and cable outages. Must be willing to work shifts and will be required to fill vacant shifts and work large outage events beyond regular schedule. Candidate will use SCADA to tag electric crews, operate water system and monitor and respond to alarms. Candidate must become familiar with individual departments operating procedures as they relate to URC duties on behalf of said departments. Must become ITS and SCADA certified through MEAG. Candidate will identify individual trouble tickets and the correct completion of each; will identify the different SCADA screens, including correct interpretation of the data shown on each; will collect and copy reports for the different departments; will read electric distribution maps and the individual feeder designations enabling the operator to tag crews to correct feeders according to their locations.
Candidate will be on stand-by 24/7 for URC management of storm or emergency restoration for utility services if needed.

UTILITY SERVICE TECH I, UTILITY SERVICES
Performs a variety of duties pertaining to consumption data collection of gas, water and electric meters to provide monthly readings for utility customers. This includes meter reads, check slips, consumption complaint orders, delinquency cut outs, cut ins and general utility work orders. Position requires weekly on-call rotation within six months of employment.
Salary ranges from $15.45 to $20.48 hourly. Position is open until filled.
Candidate will operate equipment such as backhoes, excavator, trenchers, dump truck, vac-con, sewer camera system and pipe fusion equipment. The candidate must have the ability to follow written and oral instructions; knowledge of tools associated with utility systems; respond to emergency calls after hours within 30 minutes; handle on-call duties after training period; read and interpret blueprints; assist in installing, repairing and maintaining sewer mains and lines. Candidate must be able to adapt to working in cold, wet and hot weather.
One year of pipeline construction, equipment operation, plumbing, or related experience preferred or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Candidate must have a valid Georgia CDL or the ability to obtain one within six months.

WASTEWATER COLLECTIONS SUPERVISOR, WASTEWATER
This is a supervisory position within the Wastewater Collections Department that is responsible for the construction of new wastewater lines and mains and repair of wastewater mains and lines and all associated components of the wastewater collections system. This position is responsible for ensuring safety on all construction jobs related to wastewater. This person will assist the Wastewater Collection Superintendent in the day-to-day operations of the Wastewater Collection Department. Additionally, the position will assist in planning, assigning, directing and supervising the work of the Wastewater Collection Department’s construction crews and utility inspector.
Must have current Wastewater Collection license or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment; must have electrical training and three years of commercial or industrial electrical experience; must be able to read, understand and implement engineering plans and specifications; must have knowledge of material, supplies, chemicals and equipment for wastewater systems and should have five years of wastewater collection system or engineering experience.
