Civil Tech III, Engineering Department

The City of Thomasville is seeking an experienced individual to assist Engineering Department project engineers to develop innovative and unique solutions for meeting the infrastructure needs of the City. Job duties will include CAD preparation of construction drawings for roadway, drainage, water, and sewer improvements. Candidate will assist in preparation of quantity take-offs and cost estimates, review of construction in the field to assure conformance with construction documents, assistance in preparation of permit applications and associated support documents, use of GIS data for project planning and identification of utilities, and prepare GIS map revisions. The candidate should understand how topographic surveys are conducted, and have knowledge of how that data is processed and incorporated in the plan development process. The successful candidate will have the ability to work well in a team environment, communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, contractors, and the public. The candidate will be confident in their abilities, decisive, and capable of making minor decisions in the field. The successful candidate should have at least five (5) years of experience in the preparation of civil engineering drawings working under the supervision of civil engineers.

Starting salary is $14.10/hr. Position open until filled.

Utilities Superintendent – City of Thomasville

The City of Thomasville, Georgia is seeking candidates for the position of Utilities Superintendent. This position will have oversight for 200 employees in utility operations that includes electric, water, gas, wastewater, wastewater treatment, solid waste, landfill, information technology and broadband utilities (cable, internet, telephony, and telecommunications). These enterprise functions support city operations and community services that allow the city to operate without property taxes. Utilities operations has an operating budget in excess of $100 million dollars.

Must be a visionary leader with exceptional leadership and budgetary skills who works well in a collaborative, team-oriented organization. Ideal candidates will have at least ten (10) years of executive management in utilities administration, preferably in a municipal environment. Candidates should have experience in strategic planning, performance measurement and economic development. Bachelor’s degree in public/business administration or comparable experience in utilities management. Position reports directly to the City Manager.

Building Inspection Officer I

This position is responsible for onsite inspections of commercial and residential buildings in the city limits. Perform inspections on commercial and residential structures to insure compliance with all adopted building codes and city ordinances. Will also perform inspections for compliance with the minimum housing standards.

The ideal candidate must be able to be certified in at least two inspection fields within one year of hire date. Candidate should have a minimum knowledge of construction methods and techniques. Experience as a Building Inspector or from within the construction industry or related field is preferred.

Construction Foreman – Public Works

Candidate will be responsible for direct supervision of Equipment Operators, Equipment Operators/CDL, and Laborers for the Public Works Department. Candidate will insure standard safety and operating procedures are followed; will assist the Public Works Superintendent as needed; will perform duties related to Public Works, i.e., cut down trees, install and replace sidewalks, assist with storm water maintenance, will handle on-call rotation; will assist with special events and festivals for the city departments.
