POLICE OFFICER, POLICE

The City of Thomasville is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Georgia certification is preferred, though not required. Applicants must be at least 21 before or by graduation from the academy, possess a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license and able to pass a criminal background and physical fitness assessment test to apply.

This position will perform traditional duties, including, patrolling specific districts by foot or automobile, handling public complaints, arresting violators of the law, responding to accidents, issuing the necessary summons or tickets when appropriate, preparing/compiling reports and maintaining police records. Additionally, Thomasville Police Officers are required to participate in Community Oriented Policing programs that will require extensive interaction with the community.

Starting Salary:

  • Police Officer I (uncertified Police Recruit attending the Georgia Police Academy) – $21.33 hourly or yearly salary of $46,575.
  • Police Officer II (GA Certified Police Officer w/no experience or recruit officer who graduates from the academy) – $22.39 hourly or yearly salary of $48,903.
  • Additional educational incentive pay of $1,500 for Associate’s degree and $3,000 for Bachelor’s degree in related field of work.
  • Additional pay increases for experience and special assignments.

BILLING SYSTEMS ANALYST, CUSTOMER SERVICE

The Billing Systems Analyst is responsible for performing the billing of Solid Waste charges; has the overall responsibility for preparing bills, resolving billing issues, and coordinating the various billing functions as appropriate. This position is also responsible for the billing of Special Assessments; has the overall responsibility for preparing bills, resolving billing issues and coordinating the various billing functions as appropriate. The Billing Systems Analyst is also the primary contact for the MEAG On Bill Financing Program; has the overall responsibility for overseeing the application process, preparing all necessary documentation and setting up the billing and payment schedule information on the customer’s account. This position will also be responsible for other assigned clerical/administrative duties. This position reports to the Customer Accounts and Payments Manager – Customer Service.

Qualified applicants must be able to prepare and present reports related to billing operations; must be able to analyze complex issues; must be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically answer inquires and complaints under pressure and resolve problems for customers and should have at least 5 to 7 years of work related experience.

Salary ranges from $20.31 to $26.91 hourly. Position closes, Friday July 26th.


PURCHASING ADMINISTRATOR, FINANCE

Employee in this position receives minimum supervision from the Chief Financial Officer and is expected to work independently. Employee will establish purchasing strategies and initiatives to support efficient operations, improve vendor performance, reduce costs where possible, and ensure continuity of the City’s supply chain and keep up with industry trends for commodities and facilitate effective on-going communication with stakeholders to forecast procurement needs; will manage day-to-day operations of all purchasing processes which include but is not limited to managing and making changes to purchase orders, setting up new vendors, creating requests for proposal and invitations to bid, evaluating bids and resolving problems with vendors; will establish and manage budget for Purchasing department, monitor and ensure budget compliance; will schedule bid openings, create bid tabulations and place formal bids on the City’s website and GPR (Georgia Procurement Registry) as needed and meet with departments for awarding and approval of formal bids; will present bid and proposal recommendations to Council and provide purchasing updates to executive staff, citizens and elected officials and will administer and manage the City’s Purchasing Card (P card) Program and monitor the rebates related to the P card program.

Candidate should have a BA degree or equivalent experience and 2-3 years of increasingly responsible purchasing experience; should possess the ability to prepare and maintain various reports; must be proficient in Word and Excel; must possess good oral/written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers and must have the ability to maintain complex purchasing and inventory records.

Salary ranges from $62,415.14 to $82,700.06 yearly. Position closes, Friday, July 19th.


INFORMATION SPECIALIST, DOWNTOWN & TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

This is a highly visible position requiring extensive knowledge of the City of Thomasville and Thomas County to promote as a tourist destination. This position requires good communication, discretion, diplomacy, and good judgement. This position is the first point of contact for all visitors and the local community walking into the Visitors Center. This person works directly with Tourism and Main Street personnel.

Greets and helps all visitors and customers; must be knowledgeable about the local and regional area and able to share this information with visitors. Assists customers with purchases, and places re-orders of merchandise to keep the gift shop stocked, manages all inventory through Point-of-Sale system. Maintains the Downtown Dollar registry and inventory. Knowledge of financial reporting, responsible for the daily deposits, end of day reports, opening and closing of the building, entering invoices, and scheduling workers for Saturday shifts. Manages inventory of brochures, magazines, and rack cards in both the Visitor’s Center and Mini Welcome Centers. Fills all information requests, prepares and creates welcome bags, and keeps up with tourism data records. Develops relationships with managers/employees at local businesses and hotels, working with them to increase tourism to the area. Assist with the annual events, including but not limited to Rose Show and Festival, Victorian Christmas, First Friday Sip and Shops, and other downtown and special events (working weekends and after hours, as needed). Provides support in the facility management of our Municipal Building and The Ritz Amphitheater, putting in work orders and assisting rental requests as needed.

Candidate should have highly effective written and verbal communication skills; exceptional organizational skills; the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines; the ability to work independently and as a team member and extraordinary people skills.

CUSTOMER ACCOUNTS REP I, CUSTOMER ACCOUNTS

The Customer Accounts Department produces approximately 20,000 utility bills per month, including billing for electric, water, sewer, natural gas, solid waste, broadband and telecommunications services. This position is extremely time sensitive with regular deadlines to adhere to strict billing cycles. The work is very detailed oriented; includes reviewing meter reading edits for warnings and errors, issuing work orders if needed, posting readings to the billing system, calculating rates, and reviewing charges on accounts. Requires a thorough knowledge of the billing system and billing practices, utilities metering and meter reading practices, and billing procedures. Must have the ability to work well with figures, analyze consumption patterns, and detect irregularities. This position provides back-up support to Utilities Dispatch and may provide support to the Customer Success and Customer Care Representatives as staffing and time allow.

Qualified applicants must have excellent math, analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to set priorities, plan, and coordinate work activities to accomplish work objectives. Attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential. The ability to interact well with others, including co-workers and customers, is necessary. Must communicate effectively with customers both orally and in writing and must be able to resolve problems in a timely manner. Strong knowledge of operation of computer and Microsoft Office.

UTILITY RESPONSE CENTER APPRENTICE OPERATOR, UTILITY RESPONSE CENTER (URC)

Candidate must be a detail-oriented person and should have computer experience including MS Office. A background in utilities is desired, but not a requirement. Candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting customers issues in (but not limited to) the following areas: electric, gas, water, wastewater, cable, telephone, street and ROW issues, customer billing and service issues. Candidate will take delinquent payments and set up new accounts, dispatch crews in all utility areas including electric and cable outages. Must be willing to work shifts and will be required to fill vacant shifts and work large outage events beyond regular schedule. Candidate will use SCADA to tag electric crews, operate water system and monitor and respond to alarms. Candidate must become familiar with individual departments operating procedures as they relate to URC duties on behalf of said departments. Must become ITS and SCADA certified through MEAG. Candidate will identify individual trouble tickets and the correct completion of each; will identify the different SCADA screens, including correct interpretation of the data shown on each; will collect and copy reports for the different departments; will read electric distribution maps and the individual feeder designations enabling the operator to tag crews to correct feeders according to their locations.

Candidate will be on stand-by 24/7 for URC management of storm or emergency restoration for utility services if needed.

FIREFIGHTER, FIRE RESCUE

Get your start in a challenging new career! Go as far as you want in the fire service! We’ll train you to be a Firefighter and EMT and get you the training, education, and certifications you need to be successful as a career firefighter. Once hired you will attend a Georgia Fire Academy (GFA) class. This ten-week course consists of 425 hours of rigorous training that includes classroom-based lecture and practical skills building sessions. You will receive transportation to the training facility, and a salary while attending the academy. There you will earn your Firefighter 2 (NPQ)/Haz-Mat Awareness and Operations Level certifications. Once you graduate, we further your education with your EMT (National) certifications within the first two years. Once you have completed these certifications, we offer you Haz-Mat Technician, Engineer, and Fire Inspector certifications. You can even attend Fire and EMS-related college degree programs while on duty. We want you to be successful in the fire service!
