American Red Cross LogoThe American Red Cross was established over 130 years ago to deliver vital relief and support services to those in crisis and to also help prepare citizens to respond in emergency situations. Today, it is one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the world, serving citizens throughout the United States.

On March 12, 2019, Mayor Greg Hobbs presented Terri Jenkins, American Red Cross Executive Director of South Georgia, with a proclamation recognizing March as American Red Cross Month.

“It is a privilege to recognize March as American Red Cross Month,” said Mayor Greg Hobbs, “South Georgia as a whole, and Thomasville and our surrounding cities in particular, have faced many natural disasters over the past several years. Organizations like the American Red Cross provide invaluable assistance to our citizens in these times of need.”

“We are honored to have Mayor Hobbs recognize the work that the Red Cross does within the Thomasville community,” said Jenkins. “Not only do we stand ready 24/7 to respond to disaster situations, we also work diligently to raise awareness and help the community to better prepare for a natural disaster. Such work could not be done without the City of Thomasville’s support.”

The American Red Cross provides shelter, food, water, and emotional support to victims of disasters, teaches skills that save lives, and provides approximately 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply. Chartered by Congress to provide immediate and direct assistance to those in South Georgia who are affected by disaster, the Red Cross of South Georgia relies upon the community to help deliver on their mission.

“We rely heavily on contributions and volunteers,” Jenkins said. “Anyone who would like more information on how they can help the American Red Cross of South Georgia or how the Red Cross can help them, are encouraged to call our office at 229-226-2181.”
