CITY OF THOMASVILLE CELEBRATES PUBLIC NATURAL GAS WEEK, PUBLIC POWER WEEK AND CUSTOMER SERVICE WEEK

Posted on

During the week of October 2 – 8, the City of Thomasville will observe Public Natural Gas Week, Public Power Week, and Customer Service Week. These national commemorations are meant to celebrate the benefits of locally owned utilities and the dedicated staff who provide essential utilities and customer services to our community.

Public Natural Gas Week is an annual nationwide event for communities to give recognition to one of their most valuable community assets—their publicly owned natural gas utility. This week serves to educate our community about the benefits of having a public natural gas utility in addition to promoting the overall benefits of natural gas for your fueling and heating needs. There are approximately 1,000 public natural gas utilities in the United States. Most are small and comprised of a few hundred to a few thousand customers. Despite their size, they have a huge impact on the communities they serve by providing an irreplaceable function of offering clean, affordable and efficient natural gas.

Each year, more than 2,000 community-owned utilities across the nation observe Public Power Week, a celebration of these not-for-profit electric utilities that proudly serve the electric power needs of about 40 million Americans. Every public power system is different, but all have in common their purpose to provide adequate, reliable, and not-for-profit electricity at a reasonable price.

Customer Service Week focuses on the importance of customer service and celebrates the men and women who provide exceptional customer service each day. Established by the International Customer Service Association, it was proclaimed a national event by the U.S. Congress in 1992. Citizens are invited to stop by the City of Thomasville Administration Building this week for opportunities to win special prizes from our customer service staff.

The community is encouraged to follow the City of Thomasville Facebook page this week for special videos and photos celebrating all of these national celebrations.
