April NortonApril Norton, Main Street and Business Development Director, has been appointed to the Georgia Downtown Association’s Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is made up of fifteen representatives from around the state of Georgia, with twelve being downtown program professionals and three being representatives from the private sector or government sector with an interest in downtown development programs. Candidates must be nominated by their peers and pass a rigorous selection committee process.

“It is an honor to be selected to serve our Region and our State through the Georgia Downtown Association,” said Norton. “I look forward to working with fellow leaders across the state to encourage the development of our downtowns.”

The Georgia Downtown Association is a non-profit association that promotes the economic redevelopment of Georgia’s downtowns. The GDA actively engages in the promotion of downtown areas, emphasizing the positive economic impact downtowns can have in a community. “This appointment is a wonderful opportunity to share the growth and economic impact Thomasville’s downtown has experienced over the last decade,” said Norton. “Sharing our successful strategies and initiatives will help other communities to grow as well.”

“We are very proud of April’s appointment to the Board of Directors for the Georgia Downtown Association,” said Alan Carson, City Manager. “The fact that April was nominated by her peers is a testament to the reputation for excellence that she has developed with her contemporaries across the state. April is dedicated to the success of downtown Thomasville, and we are fortunate to have her as a member of our staff.”

Norton will begin her two-year term as the region 10 representative on the GDA Board of Directors in 2020.
