CITY LAUNCHES BUDGET BLOG SERIES

The City of Thomasville has launched a Budget Blog Series aimed at providing citizens with valuable insight into the City’s operational budget process along with helpful insights, meeting dates, and other useful information. The five-part blog series will run through November 30th and can be found in the Financial Services section of Thomasville.org.

“Our operational budget process requires approximately six months to complete and is driven by the strategic goals provided to us by the City Council,” said Ashley Cason, Chief Financial Officer. “It is important that our citizens and our customers understand this process and how the City’s financial decisions allow us to complete important projects for our community.”

The blog series, which launched last week, provides a deeper look at the City’s budget process and answers many questions that may be frequently asked about the City’s finances. “Our first installment really laid the foundation for the City’s budget and covered how our governmental services and utilities operations are funded,” said Sheryl Sealy, Executive Director of Marketing and Customer Services. “Future installments will cover topics including utilities, reserves, capital improvement planning, city projects, and more. Each post is designed to give our community a broader insight into the City’s financial outlook and our budget process.”

According to Cason, the schedule of the blog series coincides with the final stages of the budget process. “The proposed 2021 operational budget has been presented to and is currently being reviewed by the City Council,” she said. “Our citizens can use this informative blog to prepare for the upcoming public meeting that will allow citizens to learn more about the proposed 2021 budget before the final recommendations are presented to the City Council for their consideration.” The public meeting presenting the proposed budget is scheduled for December 7th at 5:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building.

“The budget process is a collaborative process that involves City staff, the City Council, and public input,” said Sealy. “We hope that our citizens will find the topics covered in our blog series useful. Our goal is to provide as much transparency as possible so that our community can be an active participant in their local government.”
