In June of 2023, the Thomasville Police Department launched the Flock Safety System to help reduce crime and gun violence by capturing objective evidence without compromising individual privacy. Recent data indicates that after the system’s first year of operation, the City of Thomasville has become a safer place to live, work, and play. EMERGENCY TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE ON OLD MONTICELLO ROAD BETWEEN ALSTON STREET AND JUNIUS STREET

City of Thomasville Water Department staff is responding to a water main break at 1206 Old Monticello Road, between Alston Street and Junius Street. The repair is expected to be completed today. While this emergency water service repair work is being done, Old Monticello Road will be closed between Alston Street and Junius Street. The City of Thomasville is seeking the community’s help to locate the original Ritz Theatre sign. The original Ritz Theatre was located at 323 West Jackson Street in the area known as “The Bottom” and served as the main entertainment center for African American residents and surrounding communities for many years. TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE ON STEWART STREET AT REMINGTON AVENUE

Contractors will begin work along Stewart Street on today, June 12, 2024. Crews will install a new stormwater drainage conveyance system beneath Stewart Street. There will be a temporary road closure on Stewart Street near the Remington Avenue intersection while the work is being completed. The City of Thomasville is hosting a four-part Kid’s Summer Reading Series starting on Friday, June 14 from 12 pm to 1 pm at The Ritz Amphitheater, 131 South Stevens Street. 2024 HURRICANE PREPARATIONS

The 2024 hurricane season begins June 1, and the City of Thomasville encourages residents to assess their homes and property now to be prepared as the season approaches. Last year saw a record number of 20 named storms and seven hurricanes, with three intensifying to major hurricanes.
