CITY OF THOMASVILLE PRESENTS LET’S DISCUSS PRESENTATION AIMED AT WINTER UTILITY BILL SAVINGS

Posted on

Frigid winter temperatures can result in higher-than-normal monthly utility bills. With this in mind, the City of Thomasville will host “Let’s Discuss…Hot Tips for Saving Money and Keeping Your Energy Bills Low This Winter” on Tuesday, January 23 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Thomas County Public Library, located at 201 N. Madison Street. Organizers say this community presentation will provide tips to increase home energy efficiency and help reduce utility costs through easy, effective, and inexpensive ways.

“The Let’s Discuss series is an opportunity for citizens to get an in-depth look at important topics such as current City projects, financial assistance resources, or in this case, energy efficiency tips,” said Tara Pearson, Public Information Officer. “We understand the need to save, and this information can save our customers money through a myriad of healthy habits. Most of the tips we will discuss can be implemented with little to no associated costs.”

For example, Pearson noted that when it’s cold outside, setting your thermostat between 66-68 degrees or lower when you’re away from your home can save you money. “By not warming spaces that are not in use, you’re saving energy, and closing air supply registers for rooms that are not in use can also help.”

The Let’s Discuss event will also focus on ways the City of Thomasville provides support for customers looking to save money. “The City offers free in-home energy checkups for our customers,” said Mark Parrillo, Managing Director of Customer Service. “During these checkups, we look for ways to optimize energy efficiency in the customer’s home, such as examining the insulation, windows, appliances, and more.”

The energy checkup includes a personalized recommendation that can guide the customer towards necessary changes that can help them save money. In addition to energy checkups, on-bill financing, budget billing, CHIP grants, local resources, and more will be discussed.

“Working with our customers to identify cost-saving measures that could noticeably lower their monthly utility bill is just a small piece of help we offer our citizens to become fiscally responsible customers,” said Pearson.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information about the Let’s Discuss series, contact Tara Pearson at 229-227-4015 or visit Thomasville.org.
