The City of Thomasville recognizes the month of April as Fair Housing Month to celebrate the anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act in April 1968. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Fair Housing Act into law one week after the assassination of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, who fought for equality in housing.
“Everyone should have access to equal opportunity housing options,” said Kenneth Thompson, City Planner for the City of Thomasville. “Fair housing options play a strong role in building vibrant communities.”
The City of Thomasville adopted a Fair Housing Resolution last year to further enforce the 1968 Federal Fair Housing Law that prohibits housing discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, or national origin. Through this resolution, the City of Thomasville encourages owners of real estate, developers, and builders to be aware of their responsibilities and rights under the Federal Fair Housing Law.
