The City of Thomasville Police Department will host the 2023 Citizen Use of Force Summit in October. The event aims to inform the community with knowledge, education, and experience on police use of force.
“Our main objective is to shed light on the practices of law enforcement and explain our protocols,” noted Thomasville Police Chief John Letteney. “We want citizens to understand what happens during police interactions, especially during situations where force becomes necessary after other methods of de-escalation prove unsuccessful.”
Participants can look forward to both hands-on demonstrations and instructional classroom sessions spread over three evenings at Southern Regional Technical College. Sessions are scheduled for October 5, October 12, and October 19 from 6-9 pm. A light meal will be served during each session.
While the event is free of charge, seats are limited. Interested individuals must register in advance by contacting (229) 227-7075.
