HISTORIC PRESERVATION REPORT – MUNICIPAL BUILDING
Through a grant from the Fox Theater Institute, the City of Thomasville secured the services of the historic preservation firm WLA Studio of Athens, Georgia to develop a Historic Preservation Report for the Thomasville Municipal Building and Auditorium. The City envisioned the plan as an essential step to carefully rehabilitate and renovate the building in a way that will preserve and protect the historic character of the building while ensuring the future ability to accommodate a variety of user groups.
Over the course of several months, the team from WLA thoroughly examined the entire building, assessing and inventorying the historical character-defining features, detailing the historic evolution of the building, evaluating the existing conditions, and finally proposing a general treatment plan that will protect the building’s historic integrity.
On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, Keys Williamson and Anders Yount of WLA returned to Thomasville to present to the public highlights of their report and take questions from the community. You can view the video presentation here.
