The City of Thomasville invites the community to the annual CNS Independence Day Fireworks and Festivities celebration. The Fireworks and Festivities celebration will be held Monday, July 4, with activities beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by the fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. on West Jackson Street in Downtown Thomasville. ADDITIONAL BROAD STREET BRICKS TO BE UNCOVERED

The City of Thomasville will begin work Tuesday, June 28 to uncover additional historic brick pavers located on Broad Street between Remington Avenue and Smith Avenue. As a result, this section of Broad Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic; however, the sidewalks on both sides of the road will still be open to pedestrians. REMINGTON AVENUE DETOUR

Remington Avenue at Stevens Street will be closed to all traffic on June 22 for water infrastructure improvements. Work is expected to be completed by day's end. Citizens are advised to expect delays when traveling through the area and to plan alternate routes.

GEORGIA DCA AWARDS HALF A MILLION DOLLARS TO THOMASVILLE

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs has awarded $612,000 in grant-funding to Thomasville in order to build new, single family homes and help homeowners rehabilitate existing homes. The awards were made through the 2016 Community HOME Investment Program. “The grants were disbursed from a pool of $6.2 million, across 16 communities within Georgia,” City of Thomasville Housing Administrator Charlotte Christian said. “Grant amounts range from $160,140 to $612,000, so we were...

JACKSON STREET/STEVENS STREET INTERSECTION CLOSED TO THRU TRAFFIC BEGINNING JUNE 7

The Jackson Street-Stevens Street intersection will be closed to thru-traffic beginning June 7; however, inclement weather may delay the start of construction. Work is expected to be completed by the end of the week and will be performed at night, from 7:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m., in order to minimize traffic disruptions. WEST POINT CADETS VISIT THOMASVILLE

Eight cadets from the United States Military Academy at West Point will soon pay a visit to Thomasville to learn more about one of their own. The cadets are visiting important sites in the southeast as part of a summer seminar studying history and law as it relates to civil rights.
